As a college student in the nineties, I used to volunteer to give a talk to American public schools in North Carolina about Africa with a special focus on Ethiopia.

Most of the talks would be in upper elementary classes where the kids have minimal knowledge about the continent, let alone a specific country.

Over the past several weeks, unsafe Chinese goods have made world headlines. Countries such as the United States are taking action to ensure that their citizens are protected by inspecting goods coming from China closely and banning some types completely.

I Just Got ... (27 comments)

... an article published at the International Herald Tribune, a worldwide newspaper owned by the New York Times. I am very excited, to say the least!

Here is a link: Meanwhile: Learning to leave no child behind.

If you get a chance to read it, let me know what you think.

---
P.S. As of 4 pm China time, it was number 8 on the ten most emailed articles list. Woo Hoo!

I am happy to announce that I have started blogging at African Path. The website has African news and opinion pieces by bloggers. It is definitely a page to book mark and visit regularly.

I just put up my first post. YaY!

Here is part of it.

Virginia Tech Massacre: Lives Lost, Lives Weighed

We would all like to believe all people are created equal but time and again we are reminded all lives are not valued alike.

When I first heard about the shooting incident at the Virginia Tech campus in Blacksburg my immediate reaction was to dismiss it as another terrible incident blown out of proportion.
