As a child, I spent a lot of time at my grandmother's.

One of my fondest memories of my time there involves helping her tend to her vegetable garden.

Easter 2010 in Dalian, China (3 comments)

Not only did American Easter sneak up on us this year but I had no idea the Ethiopian one was on the same day!

Apparently, once every five years, the dates for the two Easters falls on the same day.

Silly me, I was still counting on the Ethiopian one to being next weekend.

Ah well. I will still make doro wot :)

Outside of this one surprise, the holiday weekend was great.

This year we did our Easter egg hunt in a beautiful little private park.

I have been working a bit more which translates into less time for blogging and other fun things.

Winter has worn out its welcome but still hangs around.

In the mean time, the centrally (as in city government) provided heat has gone off.

And we are stepping, walking and running on our blankets instead of wearing them.

When my husband and I were dating, we had lengthy discussions about what our domestic arrangements would look like if we were to marry.

We agreed, outside of me taking a reasonable maternity leave (6 months), both of us will work. I wanted him to know from the get go what he was getting himself into.

On the Brink of Winter (1 comment)

We woke up this morning to find a cold wind rattling our windows and knocking over stuff on our balconies.

I find the arrival of winter in Dalian to always be swift.

I would rather not be grumpy about welcoming a new season.

I want to think of it as an opportunity to stage creative play with my kids. Because there will certainly be days we'll find ourselves trapped inside.

I am definitely hoping Mr. Winter's visit will be short and mild.

And hopefully there will be surprise warm days peppered throughout allowing us to do things like this:

We are back in China. We are, once again, getting over jet lag and adjusting.

Buchela and I will go back to work tomorrow.

Dinbit will be staying home with a new caretaker.

Lots of new stuff.

I will be updating soon!
