Falling

Buchela has really come into his body since he turned three.

He loves running, wrestling, jumping, and rolling on the ground.

Above and beyond everything else, he loves climbing.

And then (gulp) jumping off from the highest point.

I find myself constantly yelling:

"BECAREFUL!!"

"No! Don't jump off from over there!"

"That is too high!"

The other day

Just before he launched himself forward on a monkey bar that is far higher than I would have liked

He stopped.

"Mama!" He called out to me.

"Stop saying 'BECAREFUL!' all the time!" He admonished. "I am never going to fall!!!"

Conviction overflowed from his voice.

Then he swung forward.

Leaving me to wonder when it was I learned I could fall.

And when he will.

hen's Gravatar I saw this video once on one of those funny video shows. This little boy, I think he was three or four years old, got a Peter Pan costume for holoween or something. He put it on, climbed on the dining room table and just jumped. You can see in his eyes that he had absolutly no doubt he could fly. Unfortunatly for him he landed with a big thud on the floor (he was ok). It was a funny video but I have always felt a little sad for the little boy that was his big reality moment.

Yemi's Gravatar Hen! LOL. That is so cute! I am assuming something like that will happen to Buchela soon enough. With his interest in flying and climbing - he is bound to break a bone!

Oh and I am actually thinking of getting a peter pan outfit to go with his wings and all.

abby's Gravatar It is nice to see Buchela as active as he can be at this age.

The only scary thing for me is the playground surface used in China.

The surface under the playground equipment should be soft enough and thick enough to soften the impact of a child's fall.
