At The Atlanta Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand - Sex Tourists, Not Welcome!

Good thing we aren't sex tourists!

At The Atlanta, we have rented ourselves a dumpy two bedroom place. We decided to stay here because other families we know have stayed here. We wanted a sure thing with a price tag we can afford.

Our rooms are not the cleanest. The water is only lukewarm. The staff is rather curt. But we don't care. So far anyway!

We arrived in Thailand at 1:30 in the morning and by the time we cleared immigration and customs and got to our hotel, it was 2:30. We didn't hit the bed until 3 am.

While the street where our hotel is located is a tame, quiet one by Bangkok standards, the adjacent street is full of life 24 hours a day.

Arriving in Thailand in the middle of the night, my first impression of Bangkok was lots of smiling, good looking girls in mini skirts trying to get attention from passing cars. And drivers breaking for a second to look over a girl and moving on to the next until they find their heart's desire....

For those who are not aware, the term "sex tourist" refers to a person who travels to another country for the purpose of sampling the local girls/boys/girl-boys/boy-girls.

In the day time, the Bangkok we have seen looks like other big busy Asian cities we have been to. It is really hot here but we are not tired of it yet. We are happy to be out of Dalian's freezing temperatures.

Today was pretty much about recovering from the trip here. We ate some Indian and Thai food. We walked around. We ran into two other families from Dalian (yeah I know, from China all the way to Thailand...Amazing!)

On our walk back to the hotel for naps, Buchela looked up at me:

"Mama!" he said to me, "I am happy!"

I can't wait to begin major exploration tomorrow after everyone is good and well rested.

We are happy.

Darren's Gravatar Loved reading the blog entry. It got cold today in Dalian (-10 Celsius) and the wind was blowing so I read your entry with envy. I so loved Bangkok each time I have visited and can't wait to see it again one day. Be sure to stop at "The Villa" grocery market in the mall at the end of your street for some Western comforts (but do it on the way back so as to limit packing). Nice to see the Atlanta is everything it has been made out to be. Delicious food they serve though.

ciao

Spring's Gravatar Dalian is cold? I thought it was in Yunnan province. Am I confused? I can remember being in Kunming in February and being toasty warm. I'm going to go look at the map!

Have a great trip Yemi! You deserve some rest and relaxation! (and luckily Buchela and Dinbit are too young to read. THAT would take some explaining!
