Washing Baby Sister: Dinbit's Bath

Buchela refuses to not be involved in his sister's bath time.

So, I have two choices.

Give her a bath when he is not around

Or

GULP!

Let him "help."

Of course, when he helps, I have to constantly remind him to be gentle.

He still doesn't understand that she is too small to play rough like he does.

And to ensure nothing goes wrong, Buchela's daddy hovers over us and hands me stuff (soap, cup, towel) and intervenes quickly if things begin to go out of control.

We have done well so far.

But all three of us are wet to varying degrees by the end of Dinbit's bath.

I am thinking I may need to wear a bathing suit for her next bath.

feven's Gravatar "GULP" this part made me laugh out loud .It is like you were born already knowing how to handle this motherhood thing. When i had my second baby i did not let my oldest near the baby .I was too nervous .i could see how left out she felt but i never knew how to make her understand she was not a toy but a baby .I think i should have gave her a chance to get involved .I guess i was too tired and too afraid of making a mess .It is all over now but i feel sad when i saw how unafraid you are of getting wet, making a mess or giving buchela a chance to touch and know his baby sister .

Yemi's Gravatar Ohhhh Fevenye, it has been hard to try to balance his involvement with her safety and my exhaustion. I totally understand what you are talking about when you said how tough it was to get the older one understand that the little one is not a toy.

And being tired and not wanting to make a mess are valid reasons to keep things less complicated. I give Dinbit a bath when Buchela is not there if his father is not going to be there to help with every step. Otherwise things would have been out of control!

Lisa C's Gravatar They all want to help out with the new baby. Mine wouldn't stop asking me to feed him. The only little thing was that I breast fed my babies, exclusively. So I didn't know how to handle that one..lol!
