Trees in Unusual Places

At the dinner table:

Buchela: "Mama! Mama! Look, a tree!" he yells in his most excited, I just found out something new voice.

He is holding up a piece of broccoli.

Me: "Oh Buchi, that is bro..."

My voice trails off.

I study his face.

I change my mind about what to say.

Instead I exclaim, " Wow, Buchela! Look! you have many trees in your rice!"

He laughs.

Me: "So, Buchela, how many trees can you eat?"

He playfully puts one after another into his mouth.

He is delighted at the possibility of eating mini little trees that grow in his rice, right on his plate.

I marvel at his ability to see the world in a way I could never.

Addis's Gravatar Cute! Funny, that is what we call broccoli in our house. We tell our kids to eat their little trees so they can grow as big as the trees outside
