Oh the Delegates!

What is up with the whole "delegate" stuff in the primary election process of both parties?

I don't understand why voting in the US is OH SO VERY complicated.

I mean, as far as I am concerned, it would have been much easier if everyone's vote counted from every state to determine the winner.

So for example, if a total of 7 million people vote, then we count those votes to see who got the most and and declare that person a winner.

Why with all the complex delegate business?

One person, one vote. Period!

ACKKK!

Lina's Gravatar I completely agree with you yemi. I don't know why they have the super delegate crap. It's just negates the point of voting.
People should just vote and they should pick the winner even if he/she wins with one vote difference.
Why should I waste my time voting if the final decision comes to some people who have super delegating rights.

Fisseha's Gravatar Hilary is done, but I think the media is trying to milk this Obama - Hilary thing for all it's worth. That's why they come up with such speculative stories.

Mamitu's Gravatar I don't think we should count Hillary out yet, they might have a few tricks up their sleeve. I won't believe that she is out untill I see that Obama is the official Dem nominee.

Yemi's Gravatar Oh the Lina, the super delgates, don't even start me on that. They are a big super mistake. I get mad thinking about them.

But I am also just talking about plain delegates. We don't need them. The republicans, for example, have winner takes all the delegates system for each state. That is also very unfair.

We just need to count the ALL votes all over the country. Then decide who is the winner.

One vote, one person!

Hilary isn't done yet. She may have a comeback. The whole thing is going to go to the democratic convention I think.

Lina's Gravatar Yemi,
If they make some conspiracy and vote against the general public, them I am never gonna bother voting for the primary.

Btw, happy valentines day. I know somewhere you said you don't remember or celebrate v-day.

ababiru's Gravatar I think the delegate business is ingenious. If you go by pure vote count, it'll be pure democracy, which is dangerous. The founders
somehow knew that majority rule is not healthy. That's why the US is a representative republic.

democracy = three wolves and a sheep voting for dinner

btw - I agree with you, don't count the Clintons out yet. They will do anything to get power.

Yemi's Gravatar Hahahahaha. Ababiru, here I was eating my lunch when I read your comment and almost chocked from laughing! Three wolves and a sheep... brilliant.

So true too. We often forget democracy can be a huge a failure when it comes to protection of minority rights leading to the tyranny of the majority.

However, I don't think the founding fathers were thinking of this stuff... they just didn't want everyone's vote to count equally... just in case, you know, the people voted for the wrong person... i.e for an undesirable sheep for example.

Although I am not quiet sure, may be parliamentary systems are a little better when it comes to minority protection because winner doesn't get to take all.

Fisseha's Gravatar Oh this Obama-mania....Charisma, vision and great oratory aside, I just can't wait to see how he will actually do when he becomes president...All you Obama-ites; I have one request....Just dont disappear like the Bush-ites did in the last 3 years...You better stand, be counted and eat some crow if your man turns out to be...hmm...A POLITICIAN!!! And if you give me the oh, hell do better than bush...Ill poke my throat and throw up

Lina's Gravatar I am just tired of pessimists like Fisseha. Of course, he is a politician. What did you want? A Jesus christ
Just because Bush did so bad doesn't mean that another president whether it's Clinton, Obama, or McCain will come and do a worse job than this current lamo. What makes you think Obama won't do better than Bush? Anyone given the opportunity can do better than Bush.
Just don't be a hater without any base

d's Gravatar yemi. So are you gone vote in china? Or you have to mail your
vote? I don't know how it works. I understand you are not born
here so how does it work? I heard that you grow up in usa.

Yemi's Gravatar Fish, hahaha. Yeah well, you vote based on info you have now and hope for the best. Lets hope he won't make us eat our words.

That said, I personally don't have a ridiculously high expectation for Obama than other candidates I have supported before. I just want him to get in there and do his best. Of course he is a politician, a good and cunning one at that and that is an important skill to have!

I find his candidacy refreshing for many reasons including for his ability to inspire and get people excited. He is also new in every way. NEW. If we have another Clinton in the presidency, it would mean for like 24 years we would have had a Bush or a Clinton leading us. That stinks like a political dynasty to me.

If Obama gets elected, he will break us out of these familiar families paving way for others to try their hand on running the country.

D, I will be voting by casting an absentee ballot. We will be mailing it in unless emailing it becomes available in the future.

Fisseha's Gravatar I'm not a hater ok lina...lol I just no longer care for politics...If anything, I think it's this Obama hysteria that's making him look like the second coming...Once again...I don't care...I'm just amused by all this

Paulos's Gravatar I just want to share what Chris Rock the comedian said when he was asked about Obama.
The question was " Is America ready for a black president? "
His response " Why not, we just had a retarded one. "
