What I Really Want

... to devour at this particular minute is Chinese food. I have an overwhelming craving for it.

I know what you are thinking. You are saying to yourself... well, that shouldn't be a problem given the fact that I live in China.

It is.

You know why?

Because I want cheap American, food court, Chinese food!

I want Orange Chicken with Chow Mein! I want it so badly I could cry.

So, right now my husband is calling around some friends to figure out if they know of a place that sells American Chinese food.

And his friends are laughing....

I, on the other hand, am wondering how nice it would be to have a worldwide food delivery company, you know, kind of like Fed-x but with food.

Pregnancy silliness has definitely kicked in.

Mesay's Gravatar Yemi, there was an article on CNN about weird occurences
you might experience with your newborn. They mentioned
five but I put down four. Some of it was hilarious. I wonder if you experinces with Lisane

1.A baby who's been bathing in mom's hormones for nine months can sometimes come out of the womb with enlarged breasts -- even boys
2.imagine looking down and seeing thick, scaly patches on your baby's tiny, delicate head. It's called cradle cap.
3. In the first six weeks of life, many babies cross their eyes. If it goes on past six weeks, call your pediatrician.
4.Some parents are shocked to see their baby has a third nipple. But according to the NIH, they're actually fairly common.

The last one is probably for babies born near chernobyl.

ok...hope you get the type of chinese food you want to
satisfy your craving.

Addis's Gravatar I see a new business idea Global Food Delivery (GFD) for pregnant women. Dont let your cravings go unsatisfied :)

dara's Gravatar Wow! all the memories of pregnancy just came flooding back. when i was around 3 months, i fainted and had to be taken to the emergency room. when my sister arrived and asked what i needed, i told her i wanted some sesame chicken, raisinets, and ice tea. how strange! and i was a vegetarian!!!

Gruntled's Gravatar The global food delivery service for pregnant women would be a great idea, but you would have to be able to get the stuff out pretty quickly.

I've known several women, vegetarian for years and years, who had really strange, strong urges for either chicken or fish during their pregnancies... I think the body sends signals to the brain when there is something it needs that you aren't giving it.

Have you had any phantom smells or aversions to foods? My ex wife, during both pregnancies would smell things that weren't there (like rancid ketchup) and would also become violently ill whenever she smelled beef cooking.

Good luck on getting the cheap American version of Chinese food!

Yemi's Gravatar Sewitye, so sweet and wonderful to read your words. They really cheered me up and made me happy. Thank you so much for your support. If I ever need a care package, I know who to ask now:) Seriously, thank you.

Mesay, lol. The things you come up with man. I think these are actually true but only one happened to us. We had the #2 problem. Buchela had a cradle cap when he came out and it lasted for a few months! Paul used to ask me "when is the cradle crap gonna go away?!" and I used to laugh. Cradle crap. haha.

Nice slogan for GFD Addis! lol.

Dara, that is so hilarious that you wanted chieken when you were veterinarian. I can totally relate! Also, now, thanks to you, I also want sesame chicken! Haha.

Gruntled, I definitely am experiencing food aversions right now... even foods that were my favorite. Basically, I eat something once and I don't want to see it for several days. I also do not want any food smells in my house which makes it tricky to cook!

nicole's Gravatar That sounds wonderful, the food that is. We too are living abroad. In South Korea to be exact. I miss the food court junk food as well.

Jordan's Gravatar I feel your pain. I was craving so many things when I was in China. And it got worse when my wife got pregnant and she absolutely had to have a Malaysian staple, nasi lemak. That prompted a very lively solo trip to several local markets. Crazy.

I was lucky though, because I was in Guangdong. Not sure about the US, but in Canada most of the cheap food court Chinese food is Cantonese food. Of course, real Cantonese food is slightly different, but I was still able to eat lots (and I mean lots) of beef and broccoli. Yummmm.

Catherine Harris's Gravatar I *so* know what you mean. When I was pregnant it was, of all things, "Taco Bell." Not Mexican food. Taco Bell.

Also, here in South Korea---at least in Seoul---you can get what they call "American-style Chinese food." It actually says this on the signs of the restaurants. Apparently this is to differentiate it from the Korean-style Chinese food (which is definitely different) and from the Chinese-style Chinese food. I don't know how cosmopolitant Dalian is, but you might look. ;-)

Sue B's Gravatar I love this post because it is true even if you are not pregnant. Whenever Doug and I came home from China almost always the first and usually the last meal was good old american (or in our case canadian) cheap "chinese" food.
