Special Child

Me: "Isn't he cute? I have never met a child like him. I think he is very smart. I think he is pretty special... I mean it."

Hubby: Yeah. He is very very special. But you know, every parent thinks their child is special. So, you know, we are no different.

Me: Yeah, but Buchela IS really special. I mean, for real! He is pretty amazing... objectively speaking.

Hubby: (in a mock serious contemplative voice) I guess.... If you think about it, even if every parent thinks their children are special, some kids are really special... which means some parents are actually right. So, even if we are just like every other parent by thinking our child is special, we are different. You know why? Because we are right. Our kid is indeed special... as you said... objectively speaking.

I collapse onto our bed as I burst into peels of laughter and hubby joins in. As we quiet down...

Me: "but you know, I still really believe it. I still think he is special." I whisper.

Hubby: "I know. Me too."

We stare at each other for a moment and smile. We climb under the covers and join our son to sleep.
