Mold can grow in the kitchen. First and foremost, all homeowners should be aware of the potential for mold. Not surprisingly, most people only consider the possibility of mold growth when they think about their bathrooms. While it is true that showers create atmospheres of humidity and dampness and are prime for mildew, kitchen plumbing is susceptible to the invasive substance, as well. Not only is mold bad for your health, but it can eat through certain pipe systems and wood. Maintain a regular inspection schedule to catch mold before it spreads.
Truth be told, plumbing as a whole tends to be the kryptonite to of most homeowners as their just aren't familiar with how it works and how to address it when something goes wrong. What's more, there is more to kitchen plumbing than just what you would find under the sink.
The kitchen is probably the one room that is often seen as the heart of the home. Oddly enough, as important as the kitchen is to the modern family, it is the kitchen plumbing that is often overlooked. If you take the heart metaphor all the way, that would be like loving the heart but ignoring the veins and arteries.
It is always a good idea to install a dishwasher next to your sink. Not only are all of your pipes conveniently under your sink, adding the dishwasher next to the sink makes it easy to load. A dishwasher is not that difficult to install if you have the right tools.
Shut off your water valve before doing any work. It is important to know where your main water shut off valve is in your home in case a pipe bursts or you want to make plumbing repairs. A main water shut off valve can usually be located outside near your water main. In addition to the main shut off valve, there will be other shut off valves in the plumbing that enters each room.
