Your home plumbing system could consist of many kinds and types of pipes. The plumbing system of a simple kitchen only consists of some supply pipes and a drain pipe. The supply pipes could lead to the main kitchen faucet, dishwasher, and other appliances that need water supply. These appliances usually share on one drain pipe to take dirty water or wastes out of your house.
Always be mindful of leaks. Speaking of mold, never neglect a leak, no matter how minor it may seem. The most common issue is a leaky faucet. Even little leaks can amass pooled water and cause great damage. Dishwashers, refrigerators, and washing machines located in kitchens can all cause water damage. And water damage can incur necessary repairs that quickly morph into very large expenditures. Never ignore a leak! Call a trusted plumber immediately if you find that you are unable to stop the problem.
Turning Off the Water - When you run into an issue, and hopefully it's something small, you want to be sure you know how to turn the water off to your kitchen fixtures, namely the sink & dishwasher, but if you do have a water line to the fridge & it starts giving you problems, you want to know how the water turns off there, too. Even a little water where it shouldn't be can be problematic. As a general rule, you also want to be sure to know how to shut off the water to your house in case of a major problem.
So, if you're a new homeowner and in need of a little guidance, you probably have a lot of questions. Though these questions could easily ramp up in terms of the seriousness, it is important to start small. As such, here is a basic beginner's guide to help you:
Kitchen plumbing mainly includes water supply, faucet fixture, and drain system. These are the main components of your kitchen sink. Generally, the kitchen sink is the only part of the kitchen that requires simple plumbing works like repairs and replacements. The dishwasher is usually connected with the kitchens water supply system and drainage for letting clean water in and taking dirty water out.
Funky water can indicate a problem with the pipes. Your kitchen water can tell you a lot about the state of your plumbing. Ever detect a smell of rotten eggs? If you are in your kitchen, it could just be a forgotten carton of eggs. Or it could indicate a contamination from the sewer pipes. Algae and mold can also grow in your pipes and affect your water supply. The type of pipe itself can also tamper with the taste. Copper pipes, while reliable and flexible, can sometimes deposit small amounts of copper into the water, especially if the pipes are beginning to corrode. In short: call your local plumber if you notice a change in your water supply.
